for 1884, with 24 1/4in. octagonal to round barrel nitro reproved (in 2000), dove-tailed brass-blade fore-sight, buckhorn rear sight, the top flat engraved 'WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS, NEW HAVEN, CT KINGS IMPROVEMENT PATENTED MARCH 29 1866, OCTOBER 16 1860', plain receiver with sliding dust-cover operating on an external rail, top tang fitted with a period style but later peep-sight, straight-hand walnut butt-stock, iron crescent buttplate with central trap-door, plain walnut fore-end, iron nose-cap, full-length tubular magazine, mostly cleaned of finish with some staining
